Born in Buenos Aires to an Argentine father and a Spanish mother, she grew up in the north of Spain and moved to Madrid in her early twenties. She trained as a dancer. She worked retail. When the relationship became public she was, in the most literal sense, a private person — which meant the coverage of her was written entirely by other people.
What she has done since is worth naming precisely: she took back the authorship. A Netflix series built around her, made with her participation rather than about her without it. Campaign work and business interests carried under her own name.
The temptation with a figure like this is to describe her only in relation to him. It is also the least accurate way to describe her. She is the reason a large part of the public sees the family at all — because she is the one who chooses what to publish.
There is a version of this story where she is a footnote to a football career. She declined to be it.
